The XIV INTERNATIONAL BALLET FESTIVAL OF MIAMI 2009

A VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENT

The XIV International Ballet Festival of Miami 2009, a unique annual event in the United States, was, as expected, a very successful one, hosting more than 90 international dancers last September. Great ballet stars delighted the public in the Dance Galas held at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Two distinctions were awarded in those galas: the Lifetime Achievement Award A Life for Dance, to the prima ballerina Lupe Serrano; and the Criticism and Culture of Ballet Award to the renowned dance critic Anna Kisselgoff, who developed her career with The New York Times.

Young international medalists had the opportunity to show off their talent to a critical audience in other venues, and contemporary dance companies demonstrated their new choreographic works as well. Films of the latest ballet endeavors where shown simultaneously in Miami and Miami Beach theaters, and workshops were held in studios for advanced students to improve techniques and styles. More than 10,000 people attended the programs during the end of August and beginning of September, which made Miami the dance capital of the United States during those two months.
