CONSIDERED THE MOST SUCCESSFUL BALLET FESTIVAL IN THE UNITED STATES FEATURING
WORLD-WIDE PRESTIGIOUS BALLET COMPANIES REPRESENTED BY THEIR GREATEST STARS!
Like Miami’s changing skyline, with elbowing cranes silently slicing the air bringing high-rising condos to life and laying the backbone for an urban hub, a point to gather a sprawling city’s diversity, so has the International Ballet Festival of Miami (IBFM) woven itself into the cultural fabric of our city offering an opportunity for audiences to see some of the world’s leading companies and ballet stars.
Over the past Fourteen years, the IBFM has brought to the stage hundreds of talented principal dancers representing the best companies from around the world and a special performance dedicated to young medal winners of International Ballet Competitions, in collaboration with Youth America Grand Prix. IBFM offers the community a unique chance to share in a celebration of dance, creating a buzz and generating excitement for our dedicated local, national and international audiences of over 11,000, as well as students of dance, the future bearers of the torch.
Under the resilient direction of Pedro Pablo Peña the Festival has become a Fall staple on the South Florida calendar with five spectacular performances at four theaters. At the Etoiles Classical Grand Gala performance “A Life for Dance” Lifetime Achievement Award is presented. Last years recipient was legendary Prima Ballerina Lupe Serrano. At the Festival Closing Gala of the Stars all companies appear with a different program and a critics award “Criticism and the Culture of Dance” is presented; the 2009 recipient was the acclaimed former New York Times critic Anna Kisselgoff.
Collateral activities include a dance film series in collaboration with Dance Films Association, New York CityDance Films, the official IBFM poster unveiling, a dance-inspired fine arts exhibit, workshops, master classes .
The IBFM’s continuing success is a testament to the genuine need our community has for an event of this magnitude, one forged and nourished in the very diversity and multiplicity that defines our city and has put Miami on the map as a Ballet mecca.
Now in its 15th season, the International Ballet Festival of Miami is recognized as one of the most acclaimed ballet festivals in the United States.
